How we help Mental health Child and youth mental health programs Stepped Care Psychological Services Stepped Care provides psychological services to people experiencing moderate mental health issues. The program targets vulnerable and hard to engage population groups. NAPHL is contracted by Northern Queensland Primary Health Network (NQPHN) to deliver these psychological therapies as part of the National Stepped Care initiative. NAPHL has developed a collaborative working relationship with Connect to Wellbeing, who conduct the initial assessments and determine eligibility to the program. Speak to your GP about a referral to psychological therapies. Me Too The MeToo program provides non-clinical early intervention support to young people and their families who are struggling to manage the challenges of everyday life. The program is available to those aged between 0-18 and who may be at risk of school disengagement, mental health issues or concerns with family dynamics. The program provides individual short-term and long-term support sessions, as well as group sessions at schools and at the Townsville Youth Hub. MeToo is funded by the Department of Social Services and is strongly embedded within the Townsville community, working closely with Child Youth Mental Health Services, non-government organisations, and schools. Contact the Townsville Youth Hub on 07 4799 1799 for more information. headspace NAPHL is the lead agency for headspace Townsville and headspace Mackay. headspace provides free, confidential health services to young people aged between 12 and 25. headspace provides support for physical health, mental health, drug and alcohol issues and employment and education support. Tern Program The Tern program is offered within the headspace Centres, and provides specialised services for young people aged 12-25 who have experienced trauma that is currently impacting their lives. As part of the program, young people can access tailored sessions to work towards their recovery. The program provides long term therapy and support. The program is delivered from both the headspace Townsville and headspace Mackay Centres. The Tern program is funded by the NQPHN. Local Drug Action Team The Local Drug Action Team’s aim is to work with the Breakfast Clubs of local schools to increase connection between youth aged 12 to 17 years of age and community-based organisations and health services. The support program is designed to provide a protective factor for young people at risk of alcohol and/or substance misuse and disengagement from school and the community. The program is a Local Drug Action Team Program supported by the Alcohol and Drug Foundation and the Australian Government. Jobs in Mind - Individual Placement and Support The Jobs in Mind program, under the headspace Townsville program, supports young people aged 15-25 to find employment or build education and skills that contribute to their employment aspirations. Under the program, Vocational Specialists work closely with young people towards their employment goals. This can include assisting with navigating Centrelink, developing a tailored résumé and cover letter, supporting to apply for jobs or training courses, interview preparation, skill-building and follow-along support once successfully placed in a job or training course. Individual Placement and Support (IPS) is a model of practice where mental health and employment support is combined.
