Northern Australia Primary Health Limited (NAPHL) has welcomed a new chairman to its board of directors.

Dr Michael Clements (pictured) was announced as the new Chair of Northern Australia Primary Health Limited following the organisation’s Annual General Meeting held in Townsville on February 1.

His election follows former Chair, Dr Kevin Arlett, retiring as chairman after more than 20 years, however he will remain as a director on NAPHL’s board.

Dr Clements was previously NAPHL’s Deputy Chair and has served on the board for the past three years.

“NAPHL has a long history of guiding and delivering quality primary health care services to North Queensland communities for over 20 years and we have been privileged to have Dr Arlett guide the organisation through periods of significant change so successfully,” he said.

“Our commitment is to support, develop and deliver primary care services in the North Queensland region by working with funders, allied health practitioners and doctors to identify and support community needs.

“I look forward to working with the board, with the CEO, Linda Kensington, with the NAPHL team and with our stakeholders to develop on these goals.”

Dr Clements is an experienced General Practitioner and Practice Principal of two, Townsville-based private practices and outreach medical services to remote North-West Queensland.

He has a wide variety of skills, specialist qualifications and experience in primary health care, clinical and corporate governance.

Outgoing chairman Dr Arlett congratulated Dr Clements on his new role and said it had been a great honour to serve the community for so long.

“I congratulate Dr Clements on his appointment and wish him and NAPHL the very best of future success,” he said.

The organisation’s newly elected chairman follows NAPHL expanding its private practice services and opening the NAPHL Health Hub in August.

The new, multidisciplinary private practice clinic at 51 Fulham Rd, Pimlico is a one stop shop for Allied Health and Mental Health services including psychology, counselling, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, exercise physiology, dietetics, diabetes education, speech pathology and massage therapy.
